International Business Immersion: Strategic Takeaways from Silvina Ledesma

Overview: My three months as an Intern with fashion designer Silvina Ledesma in Córdoba, Argentina, provided a first-hand look at how economic volatility and cultural nuances dictate retail strategy. This page highlights the "hard" and "soft" business skills I developed that translate to global merchandising and buying roles.

Operational Agility & Adaptability

Business Adaptability: From Structured to Spontaneous

I adapted from the rigid US corporate model to an "informal" Argentine environment where ideas flow freely without fixed agendas.

The Takeaway:

I learned that in luxury environments, a non-traditional workspace—where teams brainstorm on the floor or in spontaneous huddles—can drive more rapid innovation and creative problem-solving than a structured corporate boardroom

Modern D2C Engagement (Customer Service)

Market Insight: Hyper-Personalized Global Client Engagement

I analyzed a unique D2C (Direct-to-Consumer) model where the brand used WhatsApp as a primary sales tool for real-time styling, video consultations, and personalized lookbook curation for international clients in Miami and beyond.

The Takeaway:

This hyper-personalized approach builds extreme brand loyalty and provides a competitive advantage over the automated customer service models common in the US

Supply Chain Resilience & Quality Control

Buying Insight: Navigating Supply Chain Volatility

Working in a fluctuating economy, I assisted in quality control audits for local denim production, identifying defects caused by high import tariffs that restricted fabric access.

The Takeaway:

Understanding how economic constraints dictate fabric choice and production quality is vital for a Buyer18. I observed the brand's strategic pivot toward international sourcing in India to maintain "Premium" status while navigating local economic barriers

Global Competencies

Expert at translating complex product descriptions and managing international sales in both Spanish and English

Experienced in identifying production errors (reversed fabric, sewing defects) to ensure brand durability

Proficient in cross-cultural consumer behavior analysis and market positioning for Latin American luxury.
